Those of you who are around the same age as us are probably noticing that they are remaking films that were hugely popular nearly twenty years ago, back in the ’90′s). Films like Total Recall & Judge Dredd are being re-made with the same storylines but with new and more advanced effects. So we thought we’d share some of our favorite movies that you younger folks haven’t seen but should. Enjoy!
The Puppet Masters
We love a good SciFi flick, and what better film to feed that need than one based off of a Robert A. Heinlein novel. The Puppet Masters is about a group of aliens who invade the midwest and take control of peoples minds, making them of “one mind”. A group of American secret agents go up against these parasitic aliens to save the earth.
The film stars Donald Sutherland, Eric Thal and Julie Warner.
And yes, it is your classic SciFi flick, but a remake from the 90′s and we absolutely love it! Some of the special effects may seem a bit cheesey, but hey, this was nearly twenty years ago.
Starship Troopers
Another great cult classic SciFi Flick, Starship Troopers. The film reminds us of a parody or spin off of Ender’s Game. The film follows Johnny Rico, a hotshot football player but a not so hotshot in school academics. So what’s his alternative, join the Mobile Infantry! Here he finds his true talent as a natural born leader and becomes a legend against the war on bugs! Yeah, we said Bugs! This is a great film with a lot of SciFi action and a little bit of comedy. There are some gruesome scenes and a little sexual content so put the kids to bed and enojoy!
Flatliners
Hope you ever picked on or bullied anyone in your life, because that bad juju does come back to haunt you. In some cases they come back to kill you! In a freaky film about a bunch of bored medical students who haven’t tapped into the pharmaceuticals decide to kill themselves to find out if there is life after death. And of course they find out there is, but it’s not as beautiful as passing into a bright white light and finding peace at the end of the tunnel. Instead they find they karma is a bitch and they have to pay for their sins or die trying.
A great and though provoking flick that may send chills up your spine. Or if you’ve got a kid that thinks it’s good to pick on others this may be a good fairy tale to tell. Kidding…Kidding! The film has a star studded cast of Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Oliver Platt, one of those Baldwin Brothers, and Kevin Bacon.
So the moral of the article: If you’re bored and need something to do grab some popcorn, drinks, and some buds and have a movie night on us. Just don’t come complaining if you don’t like ‘em. We did and thought we’d share.
